So far the most daunting thing I have faced is the food journal. At first glance it doesn't seem to be that hard. But don't let it fool you, it is way more complicated than I could imagine.
Just a few columns, Time, Food, Protein Grams, Calories, How prepared and comments. So time is relatively easy, look at the clock right? But sometimes you forget to do that. Then list the food. Again seems innocent enough but if you have an omelet do you list the ingredients separately or do you try to write them all down on one line? I don't know, I've tried both. Then there's trying to figure out the calories and protein. Sometimes it's easy because the quantity you eat as your serving is exactly what is on the packaging. Usually, that is not the case. What you eat may actually be 1/8th the serving size. Then math gets involved. Now I don't know about you but math is challenging to me. I actually need to resort to using my calculator.
I thought there has to be a better way! An app!! That way I could easily have the ability to add my meals if I eat out. Do you have any idea of just how many apps are out there? At least 4765 by my last guestimate I have tried at least 5. Some you have to "join" and pay a premier membership to take advantage of all the bells and whistles the app has to offer. Then there's the one that is so basic it is only a tad bit better than writing everything down. I've asked my support group if any of them use an app and hopefully their input will help me decide if I want to use one.
We ate lunch out yesterday. My aunt passed away and we attended the funeral. On our way back we were getting hungry so we stopped at one of those cafeteria restaurants that you occasionally see advertised on television in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. The place used to serve some pretty good food. I thought it would be a good choice. I used to like their baked fish. I had hoped their eggplant casserole would be on the menu that day. The fish was dry and tough. The best word that can describe their food would be blech. It moved me to turn in a complaint via their website.
Well that's about it. Still trudging through this new life. I wish the temperature wasn't so hot so I could get out and excercise. I know I could do it in the early mornings but that would require me getting up early.
We'll see...
