Shopping for New Clothes

This post was originally started on September 10,  2015 but not completed until today, September 23, 2015.

We will be going on a vacation soon.  It's my husband's 40th reunion for the commissioning crew of the USS Spruance DD-963. That's the destroyer where he spent his Naval career once he made it through all his schools.  I need to go shopping for clothes.  My first stop will be my closet.  I'm pretty sure the two bins of clothes in the closet don't have anything that I can fit yet, but it will be wise to check first.  Yes I have several sizes of clothes, spanning a 10 year period of growth into obesity.  I am also somewhat a spend thrift.  I don't want to buy clothes that I hopefully won't be able to wear in a couple of months.

It has also come to my attention that size charts changed in 2011 for the 3rd or 4th time since 1971.  My mind, it still thinks about the size charts from 1971 when everything was much smaller.  As the years have progressed women's sizes have really changed drastically.  For example, in one misses size  the bust measurement has increased 4 inches since 1971.  I guess we have the fattening of America to thank!

So because of this, I really don't know what size I wear.  My mind has been stuck in the 1971 size chart for so long.  Man I would HATE to know what my starting clothes size was when I started this journey using the '71 charts.  I think maybe Circus Tent size.

I started this  post before the aforementioned trip.  I only found two pairs of capris that I bought at Goodwill for about $9.00.  I looked everywhere and really couldn't find anything that I liked.  But between that and the trip, I discovered a few things.  Never take as much clothes.  I could have easily packed much less and if needed had the hotel launder the clothes.  Hopefully next time we go on a trip, I will be able to buy some of the really cute clothes that you find in touristy spots.  But until then, I will shop at the resale type stores.  There's just no use in buying brand new clothes that will not be worn very long.  There's no shame in that, it's really a victory.
